Bristol and District Retirement Council
Course Details
Courses
examine retirement in detail, covering both financial implications of
retirement, as well as the health and adjustment areas.
Finance
Courses include a presentation by an approved Independent Financial
Adviser and delegates are given presentation packs with contact details,
should they wish to take the matter further. In no circumstances would
the adviser contact anyone without being invited to do so.
The Pension Service (previously known as the Benefits
Agency) handles State Pensions, and a representative will give a presentation
explaining what one has to do to qualify for a State Pension. Women
who have paid the "Reduced Married Womens' Stamp" find this
area particularly enlightening.
Lifestyle
Apart from financial issues, retirement brings a complete change in
lifestyle. The adjustment side to retirement is an area that many find
difficult to cope with, and useful suggestions are given to help people
over any initial difficulties they may have. Discussions take place
about the opportunities provided by the extra leisure time available.
Useful hints on safety and security in retirement are also covered.
Health
A presentation is given by a doctor, or other medically qualified
person, and covers issues relating to health problems that one might
face later in life. An active healthy lifestyle is promoted and opportunities
to achieve this are explored.
Benefits
By the end of the course, it is hoped that delegates and their partners,
where applicable, will have a very positive outlook with plenty of information
to help them plan for the future and achieve a happy and successful
retirement.
In today's modern society, many retired people have found
that their new lifestyle is so full of activity that they wonder how
they ever found time to go to work in the first place. The object of
this course is to allow successful planning, and to help everyone get
the most out of their new opportunity.
